We know that the recent hurricane disasters may have affected you or someone you know. The Washington State Department of Revenue wants to help businesses and tax practitioners that have been impacted.

If you have been affected and are not able to file your return by the due date, you may request a penalty waiver or an extension.

Penalty waivers

The Department will grant penalty waivers for businesses affected by the recent hurricanes.

If you:

    • E-file - Simply check the penalty waiver request box and enter, "Hurricane 2008."
    • File by paper - Fill in the penalty waiver request box at the bottom of page 1 and attach a brief explanation with the wording, "Hurricane 2008."

Extensions

We may extend the due date for filing a return. However, the request must be made before the due date. For more information, see excise tax return extensions.
