The workshop will provide a general overview and reporting basics for those new to unclaimed property or staff looking for a refresher. This course provides the basic information holders need to report unclaimed property to the state of Washington. Topics include:

- Preparing your report- when, what, where, and how
- Electronic filing
- Completing forms
- Common property types
- Common reporting errors & issues
- Due diligence and owner contact
- What to expect from an audit

This workshop covers subjects of interest to the banking community such as:
- Property types and issues unique to financial institutions
- Recent law changes that reduce abandonment periods
- Due diligence, positive owner contact, and notifying owners
- Aging and controlling inactive customer accounts
- Inactivity charges and ceasing interest
- Personal and corporate trust
- Managed audits
- Abandoned safe deposit boxes

This workshop covers subjects unique to local government agencies. Municipal, county, and quasi-municipal organizations are encouraged to attend. Subjects include:
- What to report and what to remit
- Exemptions from reporting
- Unredeemed bonds and interest payments
- Record retention and liability for "reported only" property
- Customer credits
- Unidentified receipts

The workshop will provide hands-on training for using our free reporting software and information on filing online using our Electronic Reporting application. Each student will have a laptop and will be able to work directly with the software. Topics include:
- Downloading and installing software on your computer
- Setting up the software and basic data entry
- Importing data from a spreadsheet or database
- Sending the NAUPA file
- Automating due diligence letters using the software
