Annual business tax return due date


January 31, 2014 is the due date to file (with payment) your annual 2013 Business Excise Tax Return.


File timely to avoid late penalties.

You must do one of the following steps by January 31, 2014

     
Step 1:  

If you had business activity, the simplest way to file your return is to use our free E-file service.

To register for E-file you'll need your UBI number and Preassigned Access Code (PAC) 

Step 2:  

If you did not have business activity, you must still file your return by using one of the following options:

  • E-file: The simplest way to file is to use our free E-file service at dor.wa.gov
    To register for E-file you'll need your UBI number and Preassigned Access Code (PAC).
  • Phone: To use our automated system at anytime call 1-800-647-7706. At the greeting enter 1 at each prompt, your 9-digit tax registration/UBI number, and then follow the instructions.
  • Mail: Check the “no business activity” box at the top of your tax return, sign, date, and mail to the address listed at the top of your return.
Step 3:  

If your business is closed, and the close date is within this filing period, you must still file your return by using one of the methods in Step 2.

If you haven’t already closed your business you must close your account by using one of the following options:

  • Online: Close your account electronically
  • Phone: To use our automated system call 1-800-334-8969. At the greeting enter 1, then 430 and follow the instructions.
  • Mail: Complete your return reporting any revenue collected and check the “Business Closed” box at the top of your tax return, enter the date closed, and mail to the address listed at the top of your return.
  • Visit a local Department of Revenue field office.

File and pay your taxes online

Register for E-file and you can file and pay your taxes online. You can even file a "No Business Activity" return. To register for E-file you'll need your UBI number and Preassigned Access Code (PAC).

If you misplaced the business tax return that was mailed to you

If you misplaced the tax return that was mailed, use one of the following options:

  1. Determine which annual business tax return is right for you
  2. Visit a local Department of Revenue field office
  3. Call us at (800) 647-7706.

If you misplaced your return envelope, mail your return with payment to:

Tips:

To avoid long waits on the phone

  1. Call early in the month, before January 15.
  2. Have your Department of Revenue tax registration/UBI number and tax return available.
    Your tax registration/UBI number is a 9-digit number that is printed on the tax return, above the name and address label.
  3. Have the tax return you received in the mail available to complete.
    A Combined Excise Tax Return, Retailing & Other Activities Return Business & Occupation Activities Tax Return or Sales Tax Remittance Return.

    1. Have your gross income figures available to complete the return.
      Gross income should not include sales tax collected.
    2. If you paid retail sales tax on the purchase of materials that you later resold:
      • Have the dollar amount available you paid for the materials, not including the tax.
      • Have the location code available for where you purchased the materials.
  4. Stay on the line and be patient.
