Q:  Is sales tax due when you buy a bag of ice?

A:

No. Ice sold for human consumption is considered a food or food ingredient and is exempt from sales tax. “Ice sold for human consumption” means ice sold in cubes, shaved or crushed form, and in quantities of ten pounds or less per bag or container.

However, blocks of ice are not considered a food or food ingredient and are subject to sales tax.
