Yes. Cars or automobiles rented in Washington for a period of less than 30 continuous days are subject to a 5.9 percent rental car tax. The 5.9 percent rental car tax applies in addition to the applicable state and local sales taxes. Additionally, all counties in the state are authorized to collect an additional 1 percent tax on retail car rentals. NOTE: Until October 1, 2011, King County is authorized to collect an additional 2 percent on car rentals to fund the construction of the Safeco Field Baseball Stadium.
