Q:  When and how often does a county assessor/appraiser inspect my property?

A: 

Multi-year revaluation cycle - The assessor is required to physically inspect property at least once during the multi-year revaluation cycle.

Annual revaluation cycle - The assessor is required to physically inspect property at least once during a 6-year period.

Actions to property that may require the assessor to inspect the property:

 

  • New construction, remodeling, and additions to structures. The assessor may visit the property several times during construction to verify completion of the project.
  • Property is sold. The assessor/appraiser may visit the property to verify property characteristics, condition of the property, and terms of the sale.
  • Property is subdivided. The assessor/appraiser may visit the property to verify property characteristics and completion of the project.
  • Property that has been destroyed may be inspected by the assessor/appraiser to determine the effect on value.
