Q:  What calendar dates are important for utility companies?

The following dates are important for utility companies:

 

January 1 Effective date of utility assessments for taxes due in the following year.

March 15 Last day to file and postmark annual reports, except railcars.

April 30 First half taxes are due from previous year’s assessments.

May 1 Last day to file and postmark annual reports for railcar companies.

June 1 Last day to file and postmark apportionment reports for your asset allocations.

June 30 First or "tentative" value assessment letters mailed to taxpayers.

July Taxpayers must submit written request to the Department for an appeal hearing within the first 10 working days of July. Appeal hearings are held the last 10 working days of July.

August 20 Determination of Final Value assessment letters sent to taxpayers, after appeal hearings.

October 31 Second half taxes are due for previous year’s assessment.

December County assessor sends value notices to taxpayers. Taxpayers have 30 days from this date to request a hearing before the Washington State Board of Tax Appeals.
