In April 2005, the Department's Audit Division surveyed recently audited taxpayers to assess their satisfaction with the audits and services provided by the division. Post-audit surveys were sent to an equally weighted, random sample, which represented 10 percent of taxpayers audited within a 12-month period.
The survey generated considerable positive feedback from taxpayers and allowed the division to identify some areas for improvement. The division is exploring how to make audit information easier for taxpayers to find on the Department's web site. The division also determined that more extensive information needs to be published on the web site about the services and programs they provide, including information about the benefits of using electronic records.
The survey measured taxpayers' overall satisfaction in the following areas: audit program, audit process, electronic records, sampling, completion of audits, audit summaries, and the Managed Audit Program.
Of taxpayers who responded:
- 89 percent agreed they were satisfied with their experience with the Audit Division.
- 87 percent agreed that their understanding of reporting responsibilities improved as a result of the audit.
- 93 percent agreed that their audit was explained in an understandable way.
Results of the survey are extremely valuable, as the Audit Division continues to seek ways to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of its programs and services. With surveys like this, taxpayers' input helps the division shape the audit experience into one that is easier and more effective.
Thank you to taxpayers who responded to the survey. Your feedback is greatly appreciated!
