OLYMPIA – July 14, 2015 – Many businesses may be holding onto unclaimed property and not even know it. The Washington State Department of Revenue (Revenue) is conducting several workshops in Tacoma and Spokane this month to educate businesses on what property may be reportable.
Unclaimed property may include uncashed paychecks, utility deposits, bank accounts, customer credits, refunds, stocks, bonds and contents of safe deposit boxes. Businesses are required to report to Revenue any unclaimed assets belonging to employees, businesses or customers after losing contact with them for an extended period of time, generally three years.
The Basics 101 for general businesses is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon on July 15, 2015, in Tacoma and from 9 a.m. to noon on July 23, 2015, in Spokane.
A workshop tailored to financial institutions is scheduled from 1 to 4 p.m. on July 15, 2015, in Tacoma and from 1 to 4 p.m. on July 23, 2015, in Spokane.
A workshop specific to government agencies is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon on July 24, 2015, in Spokane.
