Disaster relief resources available for atmospheric storm-impacted businesses and individuals
OLYMPIA, Wash. – April 29, 2026 – The Washington State Department of Revenue (Revenue) is offering help to businesses and property owners in Cowlitz, Grays Harbor, King, Lewis, Pierce, Walla Walla, Whatcom, and Whitman counties impacted by recent severe storm damage.
Businesses affected by storm damage that cannot file and pay their excise tax returns on time should contact Revenue to request a filing extension before the filing deadline. Qualified businesses that were unable to file an extension request before the taxes were due may qualify for a penalty waiver.
Property owners whose properties were damaged or destroyed can submit a Destroyed Property form to their County Assessor to adjust the taxable value of the properties. Qualified property owners will have their 2026 and potentially 2027 property taxes reduced based on the lost value as a result of storm damage.
“It’s important that the people know the Department of Revenue is ready to help them navigate these difficult times,” Acting Director John Ryser said.
In addition to these resources, businesses impacted by the flooding can also request:
- An application for credit for damaged timber for forest taxes (PDF).
- Reschedule of a planned audit or hearing.
- An extension of its expiring resellers permit.
Revenue is offering assistance to counties impacted by the storm damage to help with the changes to property values and the resulting impacts on local levies and property tax bills.
Additional information about disaster relief resources can be found on the Revenue website. Those with questions should call Revenue’s customer service staff at 360-705-6705.
