Taxpayer rights advocate

If you have a dispute with the Department of Revenue, we encourage you to continue working with the assigned department employees to resolve the issue. If you are unable to find a resolution through routine channels, the department’s taxpayer rights advocate may be able to help.

The advocate can help you understand:

• Options and procedures available to resolve your issue.
• Your rights and responsibilities as a Washington State taxpayer.

The advocate cannot:

• Change applications of law.
• Grant relief from taxes, penalties, or interest that are legally due.
