Abandoned Cemeteries Program Certificate

Purpose

To register organizations wishing to restore, protect or maintain an abandoned cemetery under the provisions of RCW 68.60.

How to submit

The completed Abandoned Cemeteries Care and Maintenance Certificate application may be mailed or emailed to the Department of Archeology and Historical Preservation.

Processing time

45 to 60 days

Fees

None

License renewals

None; however, if the Care and Maintenance Corporation dissolves, Department of Archeology and Historical Preservation will revoke the certificate.

Archaeological Site Alteration and Excavation Permit

Purpose

To allow projects planning excavating, altering, defacing or removing archeological artifacts or deposits, objects or resources or Native Indian graves, cairns or glyptic records, or any skeletal remains.

How to submit

DAHP accepts electronically signed coversheets for Archaeological Site Alteration and Excavation Permit Applications. To start the e-signature process, send an email to ArchExApp@dahp.wa.gov with a request to start the application process. In your request, be sure to provide names and email addresses for the applicant (Professional Archaeologist) and co-applicant(s) to be named on the permit.

Processing time

Within 60 days as provided for in WAC 25-48-090.

Fees

None

License renewals

Renewals are not granted; time extensions can be granted upon request if the current permit is still valid.

Submerged Historic Archaeological Resource Registration

Purpose

To establish registration for previously unreported historic archeological resources discovered on, in, or under state-owned aquatic lands, and to establish the right of first refusal for entities that discover previously unreported historic archeological resources abandoned for thirty years or more.

How to submit

The completed Submerged Historic Archeological Resource Registration Form may be submitted by a delivery service which records time and date of delivery, or emailed to the Department of Archeology and Historic Preservation.

Processing time

Within 35 calendar days (as provided in WAC 25-46-100).

License renewals

The right of first refusal granted is valid for five years only.
