X-ray Facility and Devices

Any businesses that have a facility with any of the x-ray tube types listed below, including dental or medical offices, hospitals, and veterinary, educational, security, research, industrial, or correctional facilities is required to have an X-ray Facility and Devices endorsement.

X-ray facility

Radiation Machine Facility Registration - $195

A Department of Health x-ray facility endorsement is required for business locations that have a facility with various x-ray tube types, including dental or medical offices; hospitals; and veterinary, educational, security, research, industrial, or correctional facilities.

Computed Tomography – Simulation

A permanently-mounted, standalone computed tomography machine that is used ONLY for the localization of a tumor for the purpose of radiation therapy treatment planning.

Dental – Cone Beam CT

An x-ray machine that is mounted in a fixed location that emits a cone shaped x-ray beam that rotates around the patient’s head. The image detector is located outside the patient and produces 3D image or cross-sectional images through image reconstruction. A CBCT may also be able to produce panoramic 2D images. Used only for diagnosis and treatment in dentistry.

Dental – Educational

Any dental tube type intended for teaching proper position and technique and WILL NOT be used on humans. This tube type can also be selected for medical examiners or coroners.

Dental – Handheld

An x-ray machine that can be held by the operator in one or two hands, which must include a backscatter shield on the end of the cone, which produces images by placing the image receptor inside of a patient’s mouth.

Dental – Intraoral

An x-ray machine that is mounted in a fixed location or on a wheeled stanchion which produces images by placing the image receptor inside of a patient’s mouth.

Dental – Panoramic/Cephalometric

An x-ray machine that is mounted in a fixed location and produces 2D images by rotating around the patient and/or a lateral 2D radiographic image of the head. The image detector is located outside of the patient.

Dental – Radiographic/Other

Electron Microscopes

A machine that uses a focused beam of electrons to image microscopic objects.

Fluoroscopic – C-Arm

A fluoroscopic x-ray machine designed in a C-shape where the x-ray tube and image intensifier are 180 degrees from each other. One side is open so that the machine can be positioned over an existing bed/tabletop.

Fluoroscopic – Educational
