X-ray Facility and Devices

Any businesses that have a facility with any of the x-ray tube types listed below, including dental or medical offices, hospitals, and veterinary, educational, security, research, industrial, or correctional facilities is required to have an X-ray Facility and Devices endorsement.

X-ray facility

Radiation Machine Facility Registration - $195

A Department of Health x-ray facility endorsement is required for business locations that have a facility with various x-ray tube types, including dental or medical offices; hospitals; and veterinary, educational, security, research, industrial, or correctional facilities.

X-ray tube types

Industrial – Vault (greater than 1 MeV)

An x-ray vault is specifically designed to image large pieces of equipment or machinery. These vaults are large enough that a person can fully enter the area that is to be irradiated to place the equipment/machinery.

Industrial – Vault (less than 1 MeV)

Mammography – Standard

An X-ray examination of the breast in asymptomatic and symptomatic patients in an attempt to detect breast cancer.

Mammography – Stereotactic

Used as a surgical technique for precisely directing the tip of a delicate instrument (such as a needle) and a beam of radiation in three planes using coordinates provided by medical imaging in order to reach a specific locus in the breast.

Medical Radiographic – Cone Beam CT

Any x-ray machine that produces a cone-shaped x-ray beam which rotates around the patient and produces 3D and/or cross-sectional images through image reconstruction.

Medical Radiographic – Educational

Any medical radiographic tube type intended for teaching proper position and technique that WILL NOT be used on humans. This tube type can also be selected for medical examiners or coroners.

Medical Radiographic – Fixed

An x-ray machine that is permanently mounted in a single room, typically mounted on a stanchion or ceiling rails that can be adjusted to take images.

Medical Radiographic – Mobile

An x-ray machine that is mounted on a wheeled control unit and is designed to be moved to a non-ambulatory patient.

Medical Radiographic – Portable

An x-ray machine that is designed to be taken to held by one to two hands when imaging non-ambulatory patients and/or special use populations.

Podiatry – Cone Beam CT

An x-ray machine that utilizes a cone shaped x-ray beam to produce cross sectional or 3D images of the anatomy imaged through image reconstruction.
